Title: I am going to marry an Ukraine woman, too
Post by: marceff on 12:52 19-May-2017
Hi to everybody,
thank you for accepting me in this forum, I do appreciate it very much.
As per subject, I'm going to marry an Ukraine lady sometime next August and we'll stay in Kiev. We are not a young couple but we feel that our age could be even a plus to better enjoy the rest of our life, as we already grew up our kids and they are both self dependent.
We're in Rome now, while waiting for her apartment to be ready. As she lived in Italy since last 15 years, then she's not so updated about new law, rules, etc.
I am quite concerned about Ukraine bureaucracy and as far as I could read it is something hard to deal with. So we'll take advantage of this forum to collect some information and some wise suggestion.
I am Italian, from Rome, so I apologize for my incorrect English.

Buon giorno, marceff! Welcome to our little group of expats, most of whom reside, more or less permanently, and...more or less happily, in Ukraine. There is a wealth of information here on settling into a residential life in UA. Buona fortuna!

By the way, your English is fine...no need to apologize.

Ciao!   :)

benvenuto!

The first thing you need to do is read up on the 90/180 rules now that there is visa free travel with the EU. Does she still have UA citizenship or did she drop it to live in Italy?

You will only be allowed to stay in Ukraine 90 day out of 180 days. Back to Italy for the other 90 I'd say. Not full time in UA.

But if he is married to a Ukrainian woman he will be granted residence isn't it?

I kinda leaned that way from the thread title, but waiting for those details.

Mikey must be in his cups today and didn't notice.   ;D

Perhaps Marceff will tell us some of his story so we can get to know him.

Surely Mike is technically correct in that it WILL be 90/180 until our OP goes through the successful "D" visa process. This cannot be commenced until after marriage in August.

About the thread title: just because I have found that most Europeans (male) come into contact with Ukraine because of women / marriage, then I thought it would be appropriate to start off with the motive of my expatriation in Ukraine.

About visa: our plans are to get marry in Kiev, so I'll be traveling with touristic visa first than come back in Rome and get the "D" visa. Back to Kiev go to office and ask for one year residence. Is it correct?
This should avoid the 90/180 restriction, am I right?

My story? Well it is a long one, just because I am 65. I have had a lively life from all points of view, good and bad.

To make it short, I've changed my work several times: I started as a musician in the Roma symphonic orchestra, I taught music for about 15 years, then I devised great events on classical oriental music, dance and theater, to conclude in the field of commercial advertising (I owned a company with my ex-wife). Because of the discontinuity of work, I now only receive a small pension income (coming from teaching in a state school) which in Italy allows me only a very modest life, while in Kiev it should be valued at least twice as much or even More (my current partner has some apartments in Kiev too). I also have a bit of cash that would give me security to deal with any unforeseen events.
I would like to live in Odessa rather than Kiev: I love the sea and sail, so we could opt for a living in that area.

Are you all living in UA?

A good portion of us are here either full time or in and out on a regular basis. I myself have only been her 7  1/2 years, many have been here much much longer.

IOt has been while for me but I THINK you can apply for TPR much earlier than the two years I had to wait. Someone will chime in on that who has done it recently. Also this info is all over our forum.

Welcome to the Mad House.

Welcome to the Mad House.

Spring and Summer are cool here.   Winter is when everyone goes bonkers.   If the visa scheme was 6 months in 6 months out, I'd never care about PR -- Spring/Summer here, then bye bye for 6 mos.

Welcome to the Mad House.

The day you marry, you can begin the process for TRP.  Step one will be the D visa (based on marriage/Family reunification).

NOTE:  You can obtain your D visa from ANY Ukrainian Consulate.  No need to travel back to Rome unless you want/need to.

You can also use One Day Marriage services in Kiev and eliminate the 30 day wait.
