Poroshenko claims Ukraine will buy coal from America.  Of course, he said Ukraine would buy coal from South Africa, which turned out to be in Donbass.

Will Ukraine buy from American coal miners or will they just get another lump at Christmas?

A Dumbass buying from Donbass?  Sounds about right.

"Coal is traded all over the world, with coal shipped huge distances by sea to reach markets. Australia remains the world's largest supplier of coking coal - exporting 180 Mt of coking coal (as well as 194 Mt of steam coal)." - World Coal Group.

The farther away you are, the more expensive it is to ship something.  The poorer a nation you are, the greater the need to buy locally.

Does the math work out for Ukraine to buy from the U.S.?  I really don't know; it would take a specialist in coal pricing and Ukrainian budgetary finance to answer that.  Should they buy from Donbass?  Nope, not if they can help it.
