How would I transliterate my name?
« on: 17:20 17-Jul-2017 »
Hello! First post.

My name is John. When I transliterate my name from English to Ukrainian, which would be more correct: "Іван" or "Джон" for legal documents?  Especially when I apply for my Ukrainian passport this is crucial for me to know which to put. Thank you.

Джон my name is also John. All my Ukr docs say Джон.

Іван sounds sooooo Soviet.

Peace is the failure of the military to convince the government that it can and should kick its enemies ass.

My name came out strange in my documents.  They (notary, lawyer, unknown government employees) chose my Ukrainian name.

"Dr. Большая колбаса, Earl of Windsor Jr.," was my first choice.

If it's not taken, go for Конан-варвар.

Well you're lucky.  They're used to your first name in Ukraine.

"Reginald" translated to Ukrainian looks like a calculator fell in the toilet in the middle of long-division: P%$&$#@$@!.   It wasn't helpful that they included my middle name on all the papers too.

I remember the first day I had to go to a notary and sign my name "in Ukrainian" -- I felt like a Neanderthal trying to copy cave-drawings from the tribe down the river.

Джон is my middle name, anyone over the age of 40 reads my documents and they call me by that so I go with it.

A few people I have met and introduced myself as даррен, then a few days later I again see them and they remember my name as Alberto...again I just go with it, I can not waste valuable goat trading time on formalities
